About Andy

Andy Pulman has worked for the School of Health & Social Care (HSC) at Bournemouth University since 2002. During this time he has managed the development of various HSC websites and helped produce and support a wide range of web resources and initiatives.

In 2005, he was awarded a BU Learning and Teaching Fellowship, and in 2006 completed an MA in Interactive Media. He has also been nominated for several awards:

  • Handheld Learning Award finalist (Special Needs Category – Innovation award, 2008/09)
  • RCM Midwifery Award co-finalist (Johnson & Johnson Award for Excellence in Midwifery Education, 2009/10)
  • Co-winner of “An Excellent Educational Experience underpinned by Research” award (BU Vice Chancellor Awards, 2011)

Andy is the author of a number of articles on technology, health and e-learning and also of the Palgrave Pocket Study Skills book Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts & More – published in August 2009 – which has now sold over 3,000 copies.

Since 2011 he has also self-published a number of different iPhone and Android Mobile Apps some of which he is hoping will form the chapters of a follow up – the “Social Media Friend”.

He is currently a member of the BJET reviewer panel and an editorial review board member for IJGCMS.

His research interests concern exploring educational solutions around web 2.0, gaming experiences, personal narratives and simulation . He started a part-time PhD in October 2008, concerning the development and role of  Web 2.0 and Mobile technology to support people living with chronic illness and improve their quality of life.
